The five components of fitness should all be considered when determining your fitness training program.

A good fitness instructor will look at these five components of fitness and discuss them with you when deciding on what you want to achieve from your fitness training.

A good all-around program should target all five components of fitness and these include cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and body fat percentage.

A well-planned resistance training program will generally target all five components of fitness and with the addition of good dietary recommendations and cardiovascular work most people will find that they will improve considerably in all five components of fitness over a relatively short period of time.

Any program that is lacking in any one of these five components of fitness will have a detrimental effect on any of the other five components of fitness so it is quite important to consider this when determining what your fitness training program will incorporate.

Health-Related Fitness Components
The main health-related fitness components are the cardiovascular endurance and the body fat percentage.

While all of the fitness components are essential for good all-around health these two would be considered as the main health-related fitness components simply because having a good body fat percentage will reduce the incidence of other health related problems such as diabetes and heart disease.

Having cardiovascular endurance is regarded as one of the health-related fitness components because it ensures that your lungs and heart will be working efficiently and that is essential for optimal health.

So while you should be aiming for a fitness program that targets all five areas of physical fitness if you don't have the time or the inclination to do so, or if there are other health factors that need to be taken into consideration then these two health-related fitness components should be the ones that get priority in your training program.
